CANADA CONSIDERS CHANGING MARKING RULES ON IMPORTS
On Sept. 6, Canada’s Minister of National Revenue will conclude its
month-long comment period regarding proposed changes to markings for imports.
The Canadian government is considering whether to accept origin
markings in English, French or Spanish for all imported cargo.
The North American Free Trade Agreement requires the origin of imports
to be presented in English, French or Spanish language. These markings must indicate the
country of origin to the Canadian buyer. Non-NAFTA imports must have origin markings in
English or French.
