The International Longshore and Warehouse Union picks leader for Local 13 in L.A./Long Beach, while the Port of Seattle names COO and Americold appoints senior VP for business development.
Bobby Olvera Jr. has been re-elected president of Local 13 of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union, which represents dockworkers at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. According to Olvera’s LinkedIn page, he has been president of Local 13 since 2014 and was vice president before then. It says Local 13 has more than 7,000 registered members. Olvera received 1,204 votes or about 53 percent of the total votes cast, compared to 822 for Joe Cortez and 218 for Lemusu Mualaivao.
The Port of Seattle has promoted Dave Soike, aviation director of facilities and capital programs, to chief operating officer. Soike has worked at the port for nearly 36 years, and has held numerous positions in project management, maritime and aviation at the port authority.
Americold has appointed Carl Fowler senior vice president of business development for regional accounts. He brings more than 20 years of logistics industry experience to Americold, and was most recently vice president of sales and solutions with XPO/Menlo Logistics. Fowler has also worked with Penske Logistics, E. L. Hollingsworth, and Vemco.
