BNSF sets weight limits for containerized grain

BNSF Railway has implemented a new policy restricting weight limits for containerized grain shipments, due to a recent train derailment in Arizona, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Grain Transportation Report.

Maximum weight limits have been set at 40,000 pounds (18 metric tons) for a 20-foot container and 48,000 pounds (22 metric tons) for a 40-foot container. A certified scale ticket will be required for all containerized agricultural shipments entering BNSF intermodal facilities to ensure compliance with these limitations.
