TRANSPACIFIC NEW ENTRANTS STAY OUTSIDE TSA, WTSA
None of the new containership operators in the
transpacific has joined the trade route’s eastbound and westbound discussion agreements, a
spokesman for the agreements said.
Lykes Lines, Mediterranean Shipping Co., CMA-CGM, Norasia,
Trans-Pacific Lines and Great Western Steamship have all entered the Pacific trade since
the beginning of the year, following an increase in eastbound cargo volumes and freight
rates.
Mediterranean Shipping joined the eastbound Transpacific Stabilization
Agreement for a few weeks, before leaving it in May.
"TSA has neither actively sought, nor gotten, any
expressions of interest from the new transpacific services to join," a spokesman for
the carriers’ group said.
The TSA carriers are APL, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Hyundai, NYK, OOCL,
Hapag-Lloyd, P&O Nedlloyd, Maersk, Sea-Land, Hanjin, "K" Line, Yangming,
China Ocean Shipping Co. and Evergreen. The other major discussion agreement is the
Westbound Transpacific Stabilization Agreement.
