Europe/West Africa carriers implement Nigerian tax surcharge
The Europe West Africa Trade Agreement, a liner conference, is planning to charge shippers a freight tax surcharge for Nigerian shipments from Dec. 1.
The surcharge will be 30 euros ($35) or '21 per TEU in the northbound direction, and 50 euros ($58) or '35 per TEU southbound.
The conference said that it is introducing the surcharge to recover the costs of a freight tax in Nigeria.
The members of the Europe/West Africa conference are Delmas, OT Africa Line, Maersk Sealand, Safmarine, Nile Dutch Africa Line, West-Afrika Linien Dienste and P&O Nedlloyd.
