U.S. Chamber urges inclusion of Dominican Republic FTA with CAFTA
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce urged the U.S. Trade Representative to include a proposed free trade agreement with the Dominican Republic along with another underway with the Central American Economic Integration System.
The five Central American countries included in the U.S./Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) talks are Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua.
“Including the Dominican Republic in the U.S.-Central America FTA agreement itself is an excellent way to proceed toward the goal of free trade,” said the Washington-based Chamber’s Mark Smith in testimony to USTR.
The chamber also recommended that a Dominican Republic free trade agreement should have the same language as the North American Free Trade Agreement and recently enacted U.S.-Chile Free Trade Agreement.
