P&O AND SHELL SUBMIT ENVIRONMENT REPORT ON NEW U.K. CONTAINER PORT
The P&O shipping group and the oil group Shell have submitted a draft environmental report to several regulatory authorities in the United Kingdon to support the development of a 3.5-million-TEU-capacity container terminal at Shell Haven, on the river Thames.
The two groups said that they have submitted a draft environmental impact assessment scoping report to the local council authority, government bodies and environmental organizations to seek their views.
P&O and Shell want to develop the project, called London Gateway, on the former Shell Haven oil refinery at Stanford-le-Hope, Essex.
The terminal would handle roll-on/roll-off ferries and containerships and include facilities to accommodate distribution, warehousing, commercial and other activities.
