USDA sets 2004 dairy quota license

USDA sets 2004 dairy quota license

The U.S. Department of Agriculture will assess a $170 fee for each license filed under its 2004 dairy tariff-rate import quota program, starting Jan. 1.

Licenses are issued by the agency on a calendar year basis. Each license authorizes the holder to import a certain amount and type of dairy product from a specified country of origin.

USDA has legislative authority to recover its costs to administer the license program. In 2003, the program’s administration cost was about $433,000 and the estimated number of licenses expected to be issued is 2,560.
