U.S., HONG KONG GOVERNMENTS DISCUSS EXPORT CONTROLS

   U.S. and Hong Kong government officials met in Washington Thursday to begin two days of talks on how to improve export controls between the nations.

   These discussions, which are held annually, are hosted this year by the U.S. Commerce Department in cooperation with the departments of Defense, State and Homeland Security.

   “The discussions allow for an exchange of views between the United States and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on current export control and strategic trade issues,” Commerce said.

   This year’s discussion is also in line with Commerce’s Transshipment Country Export Control Initiative. Both countries are concerned about the smuggling of weapons of mass destruction through legitimate cargo flows and conveyances.
