Hamburg Sud sets up Asian headquarters in Hong Kong

Hamburg Sud, the north/south shipping group with an increasing liner shipping involvement in Asian trades, is setting up an Asian regional headquarters in Hong Kong this month (November).

The headquarters will manage Hamburg Sud’s business in Asia, Australia and New Zealand, as well as South Africa.

Hamburg Sud’s Asia region will be headed by Frank Smet as commercial director and Fred Hubert as financial and logistics director, both based in Hong Kong. They will be responsible for the liner services linking Asia with both coasts of South America, Central America, North America, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

In addition to its owned office network in Australia and New Zealand, Hamburg Sud will now set up 12 more owned offices in Asia — in Hong Kong, Taiwan and in the People’s Republic of China. Agencies will support Hamburg Sud’s Asian business in Southeast Asia, Japan and Korea.

Four more Hamburg Sud owned offices are opening in South Africa.
