RPM International of Brownsville, Texas made a noteworthy bit of industry history by filing the 1 millionth shipper’s export declaration through the U.S. Census Bureau’s free Internet link, known as AESDirect, to the Customs’ Automated Export System.

“We are very pleased with AESDirect,” said Ruben Perez, president of RPM International. “We began using AESDirect one year ago and have had no problems with it.”

“We are delighted with this achievement,” said Robert Foley, president of FCS, the Internet ASP company that developed and operates AESDirect on behalf of Census. “AES is now processing over 150,000 shipments a month from over 3,400 companies.”

AES and AESDirect help Customs target illegal exports, while Census uses the data to compile the country’s trade statistics.

“This has been a great benefit for Census since implementing AESDirect,” said Gerard J. Horner, chief of the AES Branch at Census’ Foreign Trade Division. “AESDirect has reduced the error rate of export reporting and improved the quality of export trade statistics.”
