SAFMARINE ADDS PACIFIC LINK, WITHDRAWS FROM MONTREAL/EUROPE

Safmarine has added an Asia/U.S. West Coast weekly transpacific service by participating in Maersk Sealand’s resumed “TP5” service, and withdrawn from the Montreal/north Europe trade.

Antwerp-based Safmarine, a sister company of Maersk Sealand, now offers the “TP5” service, which calls Tanjung Pelepas, Laem Chabang, Hong Kong, Yantian, Kwangyang and Los Angeles. However, Safmarine said that it continues to use mainly another service, called “TP6,” to carry transpacific cargoes.

Safmarine said that it stopped its involvement in the Montreal/north Europe “Canex” service at the end of December for commercial reasons.

The carrier’s former partners in the Montreal service — Maersk Sealand, P&O Nedlloyd, NYK Line and Mediterranean Shipping Co. — will continue the operation.
