Customs reports rash of incidents at Caribbean stations

Customs and Border Patrol says that during the first 10 days of August it conducted a rash a seizures and arrests involving offenses from drug smuggling to counterfeit goods at seaports and airports in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

   Incidents included the discovery of 663 grams of cocaine in an express shipment from Aruba to Aguadilla, P.R.; the arrest of a Dominican national smuggling nearly 2.5 pounds of heroin pellets aboard the Caribbean Express Ferry from the Dominican Republic to Mayaguez, P.R.; the discovery of suspected stolen vehicles being transported for export to the Dominican Republic aboard the Caribbean Express Ferry; two kilos of cocaine in express packages moving through the International Mail Branch in San Juan; and in the U.S. Virgin Islands illegal Cuban cigars and counterfeit Nike sneakers found at Henry E Rohlsen Airport.

   CBP said it has confiscated more than $17,000 in counterfeit products this year in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
