VOLVO TO IMPORT VEHICLES THROUGH BRUNSWICK AUTO TERMINAL
Volvo Cars of North America LLC said it will begin moving an estimated 30,000 vehicles per year into the United States through the Port of Brunswick's Colonel's Island Auto Facility.
Starting in July, Volvo will begin importing is S60, S60 AWD, S80, V70, Cross Country, C70 Coupe and Convertible, and compact S40 and V40 models from Gent, Belgium; Born, Holland; Gothenburg, Sweden; and Uddevalia, Sweden, through Brunswick.
Amports, a subsidiary of Associated British Ports Holding PLC, will provide automotive processing services for Volvo at Colonel's Island. Wallenius Wilhelmsen, which has served as ocean carrier for Volvo vehicles from Europe to the U.S. East Coast, will continue to serve the automaker at the Port of Brunswick.
Automobile and machinery units handled at the Colonel's Island Auto Facility rose 12 percent to a record 218,580 units in the Georgia Port Authority's fiscal year 2001, which ended June 30. The Volvo imports are expected to boost the Port of Brunswick's annual vehicle volume by about 14 percent.
