SCHNEIDER TO USE NEW RACK FOR MOVING GLASS PRODUCTS
Schneider Specialized Carriers Inc., a subsidiary of giant truckload carrier Schneider National, has introduced a new rack designed to improve the handling speed and safety for large flat glass shipments.
Schneider Specialized, one of the largest flat-glass haulers in North America, said the rolling glass rack benefits glass manufacturers, coaters and fabricators because they can load as many as 11 different-size glass packs on the new A-frame racks and slide them straight into a trailer with a forklift. Unloading times can be reduced by 75 percent in some cases, Schneider said.
The new method is in contrast to the standard system of moving individual packs of glass from various locations within the plant to a stationary rack on a flatbed truck. The use of trailers minimizes the risk of injury to other motorists and the potential for vandalism and other damage, according to Schneider.
By minimizing back-and-forth moves of individual pieces of glass on the shop floor, the rolling rack system streamlines the process of cutting, storing and shipping glass, Schneider officials said.
Schneider Specialized Carriers provides service for all major North American glass producers.
