MAERSK SEALAND ADDS SURCHARGE FOR ASIA/U.S. SHIPMENTS VIA SUEZ CANAL
Maersk Sealand is introducing a “Suez canal transit war risk surcharge” for shipments from Hong Kong and mainland China to North America that use its Suez Express service.
The surcharge is set at $10 per TEU and is effective from today (Oct. 19).
Maersk Sealand said that the surcharge is designed to recover a portion of the increasing insurance costs for vessels passing through Suez canal.
Maersk Sealand and other carriers have already announced a similar surcharge for shipments between Asia and northern Europe via the Suez canal.
