DEUTSCHE POST, AEI RECEIVE U.S. REGULATORY APPROVALS

Deutsche Post AG, the expansion-minded German postal
service and logistics group, has received all U.S. regulatory approvals for the
$1.14-billion takeover of Air Express International Corp.
The acquisition was approved under the Exon-Florio Statute and under U.S.
Department of Transportation regulations. The DOT has approved AEI’s application to
register as a foreign air freight forwarder under section 721 of the Defense Production
Act, commonly known as the Exon-Florio Statute.
Deutsche Post and AEI had earlier announced that the transaction had also
been cleared under the Hart-Scott-Rodino antitrust procedure.
Deutsche Post and AEI are still awaiting clearance from the European
Commission for the acquisition.
A spokesman for Deutsche Post said that the company hopes to obtain the
clearance from the EC by early February.
