Hyundai adds transpacific link
Seoul-based Hyundai Merchant Marine is adding a new weekly transpacific service from mid-April.
The service is aimed at “expanding its share of the Chinese market,” said a spokesman for Hyundai.
The “Pacific China Express” will use five ships averaging 2,760 TEUs and will call at Xingang, Ningbo, Shanghai, Busan, Long Beach, Oakland, Busan and Xingang. The service commences April 17 from Xingang. Hyundai said the “PCX” service is expected to be operated in conjunction with fellow New World Alliance partners APL and MOL, but nothing has been formally decided.
The new service will add about 144,000 TEUs in annual one-way capacity to the transpacific market.
