ACCORD APPOINTED APHIS ADMINISTRATOR
Bobby R. Accord has been appointed administrator for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service.
Accord served as APHIS’s acting administrator since September, and as associate administrator since 1999. Prior to that, he served nearly a decade as deputy administrator for the agency’s Wildlife Services program.
As administrator, Accord will manage programs that are critical to the protection of the United States’ livestock, plants and food supply against unwanted pests and diseases.
APHIS spends about $800 million a year and employs about 7,000 personnel, with nearly 5,000 of those on alert at our nation’s borders, ports of entry, and on farms, ensuring the appropriate prevention and preparedness programs are in place to protect U.S. agriculture.
