EUROPE AFRICA CARRIERS ADD NIGERIAN SURCHARGE
Shipping lines of the Europe West Africa Trade Agreement conference will introduce a port congestion surcharge for southbound shipments to Nigeria on May 31.
“The member lines of Europe West Africa Trade Agreement have been experiencing severe delays at Nigerian Ports owing to a Customs’ inspection program on import containers,” the conference said.
The conference said that its carriers have no alternative but to implement a port congestion surcharge on import containers in Nigeria. The southbound surcharge will be 325 euro or '200 ($286) per 20-foot container and 650 euro or '400 ($572) per 40-foot box.
The carriers of the Europe West Africa Trade Agreement are Maersk Sealand, Safmarine, Nile Dutch Africa Line, P&O Nedlloyd and West Afrika Linien-Dienste.
