TITAN MARITIME COMPLETES SALVAGE OF ôCAMILLAö

Titan Maritime LLC, a salvor based in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., has brought the “Camilla,” a 7,598-dwt, Finnish-flag roll-on, roll-off vessel abandoned off Nova Scotia and blown 300 miles east, into safe harbor at St. John’s, Newfoundland.

After the “Camilla' suffered engine failure during a storm, the Canadian Coast Guard airlifted all of the vessel’s 17 crewmembers to safety. Subsequently, International Transport Contractors Management asked Titan to partner in a salvage operation. Lundqvist Rederierna, owner of the “Camilla,” accepted a Lloyds Open Form 2000 contract offered jointly by the two salvors.

In a 12-day operation starting Feb. 1, a crew of 19 salvors used ITC’s icebreaking tug “Kigoria” to tow the “Camilla” first to Conception Bay, where the vessel was stabilized and dewatered during blizzard conditions, and then on to St. John’s for delivery to Lundqvist Rederierna.
