INTERMARINE IN HEAVY-LIFT SHIPMENTS FROM HOUSTON TO SANTOS
Intermarine, the heavy-lift, multipurpose shipping company, has shipped eighteen 160-ton locomotives from the port of Houston to Brazil, for delivery to the Ferronorte SA railroad company.
The shipment, carried on Intermarine’s heavy-lift ship the “Industrial Champ,” is believed to be one of the largest single shipments of locomotives. The vessel is equipped with 200-ton cranes.
Normally, locomotives are shipped with the bogies detached to minimize the weight of the units and allow for easier stowage. But Intermarine said that, in this case, the vessel loaded the engines fully assembled.
The shipment was discharged at the port of Santos, Brazil.
The locomotive engines will be utilized by the Ferronorte railroad to transport minerals and agricultural products from the interior of the country to the port of Santos.
