Lykes Lines appoints agent in Iraq
Lykes Lines, part of the Canada-registered group CP Ships, has appointed the Al Rashed group as its agent in Iraq.
The Al Rashed group is part of Seven Oceans Shipping in Kuwait. The agency has an office in Basrah, the second-largest city in Iraq, and is establishing another office in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.
Lykes Lines will serve Iraq from Europe and the United States via its weekly North Europe/India service, transshipping at Jebel Ali in the United Arab Emirates, and from the U.S. East Coast and Gulf, transshipping in the Mediterranean.
“We expect demand for capacity into Iraq to grow in the future,” said Tony Bruno, senior vice president of Lykes Lines. “By appointing an agency now, we will be well prepared when the market opens up.'
Lykes urged customers planning to export cargo to Iraq to check up-to-date U.S. government regulations related to sanctions at http://www.treas.gov/offices/eotffc/ofac/, selecting “Sanctions Program and Country Summaries.”
