The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will award up to $527.8 million in infrastructure grants to 584 airports across the country as part of the agency’s Airport Improvement Program (AIP), the FAA said in a statement.
The airport grant program funds a variety of airport infrastructure projects, including runways, taxiways, and airport signage, lighting, and markings.
“Investing in our airport infrastructure ensures the safe and efficient operation of our air transportation system,” FAA Administrator Michael P. Huerta said of the grants. “This funding program helps us maintain, renovate, and build airport infrastructure at airports.”

The FAA said it will issue the AIP grants to the airports over the next several weeks, “in time to take advantage of the spring and summer construction season.” The grants will ensure the projects at these airports are either under construction or completed before winter, the agency added.
