Danzas, BDP file petitions for service contract exemptions
The Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) in Washington, D.C., has received petitions from two non-vessel-operating common carriers (NVOs) seeking exemptions from requirements of Section 8 of the U.S. Shipping Act of 1984.
The FMC asked interested parties to file comments on both petitions by February 13.
Danzas Corp., comprising Danmar Lines Ltd., Danzas AEI Ocean Services and DHL Danzas Air and Ocean, has asked the FMC in petition P1-04 for an exemption “from the tariff publishing requirements of the Shipping Act in order to give Danzas and its customers the discretion to negotiate individually structured, confidential contracts for a specific combination of services.” the Danzas petition said.
BDP International, Inc., has asked the FMC in petition P2-04 for a similar exemption in order to permit BDP “to selectively, and in its discretion, offer its customers in contract format a confidential, individually tailored package of logistics services that includes ocean transportation,” BDP’s petition said.
The petitions are posted at http://www.fmc.gov/Docket%20Log/Docket%20Log%20Index.htm. Comments should be directed to Bryant L. VanBrakle, Secretary, Federal Maritime Commission, 800 North Capitol Street, NW, Washington, D.C., 20573-0001. For more information, call (202) 523-5725.
