MarAd asks for fresh proposals for vessel disposal
The U.S. Maritime Administration is looking for ideas on ways to dispose of obsolete vessels in its reserve fleet sites in the James River, Va., in Suisun Bay, Calif., and Beaumont, Texas.
MarAd said in a statement, “the obsolete vessels in the worst condition, many of which are located in the James River Reserve fleet, may be disposed of using traditional competitive contracting practices, depending on the availability of funding.”
By law, the obsolete ships have to be disposed of by Sept. 30, 2006.
