Land O’ Lakes receives 11,100 metric tons of wheat for Uganda

The U.S. Department of Agriculture will donate 11,100 metric tons of wheat to Land O’Lakes for use in Uganda.

Land O’Lakes, operating in the capacity of a private voluntary organization, will sell the wheat in Uganda and use the proceeds to increase productivity and competitiveness of Uganda’s dairy industry, the USDA said.

The donation will be made under USDA’s Food for Progress program, which is administered by the Foreign Agriculture Service. The supply period for this donation is fiscal year 2005.

The Food for Progress program provides for USDA donations of agricultural commodities to needy countries to encourage economic or agricultural reforms that foster free enterprise. This year, USDA expects to donate about 525,000 tons of U.S. commodities to 30 countries under Food for Progress.
