SAFMARINE ADDS LARGER SHIP TO NORTH AMERICA/SOUTH AFRICA LINK
Safmarine Container Lines has introduced a 2,063-TEU ship to replace one of the 1,400-TEU ships on its joint weekly North America/South Africa service with Maersk Sealand and Mediterranean Shipping Co.
The vessel “Safmarine Tugela” replaced the smaller “Safmarine Nolizwe” last week and a second larger ship will also enter the service in December.
Safmarine markets the weekly service as America Express Container Service. It has a port rotation of New York; Baltimore, Md.; Norfolk, Va.; Charleston, S.C.; Freeport, Bahamas; Cape Town; Durban; Port Elizabeth; Cape Town; New York; Baltimore; Norfolk; Charleston; and Freeport.
