U.S. MTMC BEGINS RESTRUCTURING
The U.S. Military Traffic Management Command announced that it will begin to reorganize its operations this year.
The announcement was made this week by Maj. Gen. Kenneth Privratsky, commander of MTMC. The Fort Eustis, Va.-based operation is the ocean and land transportation and logistics unit for the U.S. armed forces.
Privratsky, who took over MTMC in July, said the operation must use practices of the private sector to become smaller, faster and more efficient to move Defense Department cargo and passengers in the future.
Other large MTMC operations involved in the reorganization are the 598th Transportation Group, Rotterdam; 599th Transportation Group, Wheeler Army
Airfield, Hawaii; and the Transportation Engineering Agency, Newport News, Va. MTMC also has operations in about 25 ports worldwide.
McLean, Va.-based Logistics Management Institute will help MTMC with its reorganization efforts. MTMC plans to complete its reorganization by fiscal 2001.
