Smith named APHIS associate administrator
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has named Cindy Smith to associate administrator.
Smith joined APHIS in 1978. She replaces Nick Gutierrez, who is a member of the Foreign Service and accepted APHIS’s regional director position in Mexico City.
Smith will assist with managing the agency’s programs involving plant protection and quarantine, veterinary services, wildlife services, animal care, and biotechnology regulatory services.
