MarAd approves vessel flag transfer, scrapping
The U.S. Maritime Administration approved Seattle-based Vessel Management Services’ request to sell the 5,051-gross-ton barge “Cordova” to WesGroup Delta Investments of Canada and transfer the vessel to the Canadian flag registry.
The “Cordova” was built in San Francisco in 1969.
The agency also approved Oakland, Calif.-based Crowley Marine Services’ request to sell the 8,133-gross-ton tank barge “Barge 450-9” to Ease Faith Ltd. of Hong Kong for scrapping in China.
“Barge 450-9” was built in San Francisco in 1981.
MarAd must approve all U.S.-flag vessel overseas scrappings and flag registry transfers under section 9 of the 1916 Shipping Act.
