Torben Weilmuenster (pictured above left) has been elected chairman of the governing council of the pharmaceutical logistics network Poseidon.
Poseidon is described as a network of independent pharma ocean freight shippers and logistics providers with the core objective of reforming the pharmaceutical logistics process and making ocean freight the default mode of carriage for bulk medicines.
“The Poseidon model provides a revolutionary solution to the mounting problems associated with ensuring that sensitive pharmaceutical products are transported safely and within regulatory guidelines,” said Alan Kennedy, executive director of Poseidon. “This is a particularly important time for the Poseidon network, which will be commencing commercial activities during 2019 and developing a GDP-compliant part-load service.”
Weilmuenster is the head of global supply chain management at Frankfurt-based Merz Pharma GmbH & Co. KgaA and has overall responsibility for logistics planning and execution at the company.
The chairmanship of Poseidon’s governing council is a new, two-year position. Weilmuenster will be supported by Steve Brabbs, global technology leader for cold chain protection at DuPont, who was appointed vice chairman.
Bahri CEO Abdullah Aldubaikhi (pictured above right) has been appointed to the board of directors of ITOPF, the world’s largest ship owner organization providing objective advice on effective response to spills of oil, chemicals and other substances in the marine environment.
Aldubaikhi represents the Middle East and North African region.
“As the leading global authority on preparedness and response to spills from ships, ITOPF has been at the forefront of providing sound technical advice to tank owners and operators from around the world for five decades,” Aldubaikhi said. “I am honored to join the esteemed organization and contribute to the organization’s efforts to offer critical guidance and support to industry players that would help reduce the sector’s impact on the environment.”
The nonprofit ITOPF was established in 1968, is headquartered in London and has 7,900 members operating 13,600 tankers, barges, LPG/LNG carriers, FPSO/FSUs or combination carriers totaling 429 million gross tonnage.
