EMIRATES EXPANDS B747 FREIGHTER SERVICES

Emirates, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, has expanded B747 freighter services to Amsterdam and Hong Kong, adding a fourth weekly flight between its hub in Dubai and each destination.

Emirates has been operating three weekly B747-200 freighter frequencies to Amsterdam and Dubai using a leased Atlas Air aircraft. The fourth weekly flight will fly between Dubai and Amsterdam on Monday and between Dubai and Hong Kong on Sundays.

There should be plenty of freight to fill the flights as a strong peak air freight shipping season arrives this year. Capacity is tight, particularly out of Asia, and airlines have been adding main deck lift to soak up demand.

“This capacity increase is in response to demand from many of our customers who require the additional capacity,” said Hiran Perera, manager of strategic planning and capacity development. “Emirates SkyCargo has a long-standing commitment to the Pacific Rim market. We appreciate the support that we have received from our agents in the Far East, and our top priority is to satisfy their needs.”
