Crowley names Sweeney VP of Far East operations

   Crowley Maritime Corp. has promoted Alex Sweeney to vice president of Russian Far East operations, effective March 1.

   In his new position, Sweeney is responsible for the management of the “BETS Sealift” to Lunskoye, Sakhalin Island and the tow of the “Orlan” from Sov Govan, Russia to Ulsan, Korea.

   He will report to Steve Peterson, senior vice president and general manager, energy and marine services of Crowley.

   Sweeney joined Crowley in 1980 and has more than 20 years experience in marine operations for Crowley on the U.S. East and West coasts.

   Crowley expanded its international presence with the formation of Crowley Far East Services in Sakhalin state, Russia, on April 9, 2003, to offer marine and shoreside logistics and transportation services to the energy and construction industries in the region. As a Russian company, Crowley Far East Services offers Russian and international marine transportation by oceangoing tugboats and barges with heavy lift, breakbulk and ice breaking capabilities.
