ATLAS AIR REPORTS RECORD EARNINGS
Atlas Air Inc. Friday reported record fourth-quarter net income of $31.2 million, up 32 percent over the year earlier quarter.
Revenues rose 13 percent to 223.7 million in the fourth quarter, while operating income rose 12 percent to $69.2 million. Atlas, which leases 747 freighters, including aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance, to major airlines, also set fourth-quarter records in revenues, block hours, operating income and pre-tax income.
Atlas also reported record net income for 2000 of $85.3 million, up 39 percent over 1999. Revenues rose 24 percent to $790.5 million, and operating income rose 24 percent to $232.7 million, both also records for the Purchase, N.Y.-based company.
The financial results were reported two days after the death of Michael Chowdry, 48, chairman and president and chief executive officer. Chowdry died when a private jet he was piloting crashed in an open field near Denver, Colo.
