Hamburg Sud christens fifth 5,500-TEU ship
Hamburg Sud has christened the “Monte Sarmiento,” the fifth of six identical 5,552-TEU containerships built in South Korea for its northern Europe/East Coast of South America liner service.
The ship features 1,365 plugs for reefer containers, making it one of the largest ships in the world for the transport of refrigerated commodities. It can sail at 23.3 knots.
Following delivery, the “Monte Sarmiento” will be phased into the Europe/East Coast of South America service of Hamburg Sud and its subsidiary Alianca.
