JAL TO BOOST FREIGHT CHARGES
Japan Airlines Co. said it will increase air freight charges for cargo moving in and out of Japan by 5 to 10 percent in October.
Rates to and from North and South America and within Asia will increase 5 percent, while Japan/Europe rates will increase 10 percent.
JAL, Asia's largest carrier, said the increase is do to increased jet fuel costs. The airline said a $1 increase in fuel prices adds $37.7 million to JAL's costs. The airline forecast fuel prices at $28 a barrel at the start of the year. Jet fuel topped $42 a barrel last Thursday.
