TRASMEDITERRANEA TAKES DELIVERY OF FAST FERRY

Trasmediterranea S.A., the Spanish shipping company that operates services to and from the Canaries and Balearic islands, has taken delivery of a 96-meter “fast ferry” catamaran from Incat, the Australian shipbuilder.

The “Milenium,” a so-called wavepiercing catamaran, has a deadweight of 710 tons and in trials had speeds of 42 knots when moving 535 tons. The passenger/car/ truck fast ferry can carry 12 road freight trailers with 180 cars, or 24 road freight trailers with 85 cars.

Incat said that the addition of the ship reinforces its intention of maintaining a dominant presence in the niche fast ferry market for fast freight.
