US AIRWAYS SUFFERS $269-MILLION LOSS FOR 2000
US Airways Group Inc. reported a net loss of $269 million for 2000.
During the fourth quarter, the company reported a net loss of $101 million.
US Airways president Rakesh Gangwal attributed the losses in part to high fuel prices and “expanding low-cost and network carrier competition.”
The company continues to focus on its proposed merger with United Airlines, which “will have a very positive impact not only on the job prospects of US Airways 45,000 employees but also on service and competition throughout US Airways' service area,” the company said in a statement announcing the loss.
