CMA CGM announces rate hikes

   French container carrier CMA CGM said it is implementing rate increases and surcharges “in response to the strong rebound of volumes and capacity shortages.

   The effective dates and increases are:

   ' On July 13, 150 euros ($188.56) per TEU, from North Europe to the Caribbean with the exception of French West Indies and Guyana, Central America and West Coast South America.

   ' On July 14, $250 per 20-foot dry container, and $400 per 40-foot dry and 40-foot high-cube container from North West India and Pakistan to Europe and the Mediterranean.

   ' On July 20, $500 per 20-foot dry container and $775 per 40-foot dry container from Asia to the Caribbean with the exception of French West Indies and Guyana.

   ' On Aug. 1, $250 per TEU from Asia to West Africa.

   It also said it will impose the following peak season surcharges:

   ' On July 15, $200 per 20-foot dry container, and $400 per 40-foot dry and 40-foot high cube container from South and East India to Europe and the Mediterranean.

   ' On Aug. 1, $200 per TEU between Asia and North Europe (including Baltic, Russia and the United Kingdom.

   Both surcharges are subject to a currency adjustment factor.
