MAERSK U.K. SELECTS MCP FOR STATISTICS REPORTS
Maersk Line (UK), the British arm the Danish shipping
line, has selected Maritime Cargo Processing to submit traffic statistics on its
activities to the British government.
The move by the Danish carrier is designed to comply with the European
Union maritime statistics directive, which takes effect on Jan. 1. Under the directive,
shipping lines or their agents must submit statistical returns to national authorities in
the EU, including the British Department of Transport, Environment and the Regions.
Maritime Cargo Processing, provider of the FCPS port community
electronic data interchange system for containerized maritime traffic, already had an
electronic interface with Maersk for import, export and transhipment traffic in the U.K.
The required information will be collected by FCPS automatically as a by-product of the
current link and forwarded electronically and in the format required by the British agency
responsible for collecting the statistics.
