BIS launches data portal for export licensing information

The Bureau of Industry and Security announced the start of its new data portal, which for the first time makes public aggregate information on export licensing and data trends.

The U.S. Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security on Wednesday announced the start of its new data portal, which for the first time makes public aggregate information on export licensing and data trends.
In specific, the portal offers data and analysis on controlled trade with select countries, export control reform (ECR), BIS licensing, and exporter compliance, which users can download in PDF and Excel format.
“The data portal is consistent with [Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker’s] goal of data in her strategic plan to increase the efficiency, effectiveness, and security of Commerce programs through a data-driven government,” the agency said in a statement. “The data portal will make it easier for businesses, communities, and citizens to access, analyze, and use Commerce data.”
The BIS data portal can be accessed at http://www.bis.doc.gov/data.
