EQUASIS SHIP SAFETY DATA EXCHANGE, INTERNATIONAL MEMORANDUM SIGNED

   On Jan. 28 the U.S. Coastguard, the European Commission, and the maritime administrations of the United Kingdom, France, Spain and Singapore signed a memorandom of understanding to set up the Equasis information system.

   Japan is expected to join soon.

   Equasis will provide internet-based access to safety information on merchant ships worldwide.

   It will combine private and public data sources for easy access on internet address http://www.equasis.org, starting from around May.
