IAG Cargo will launch a new Cape Town, South Africa service, which will operate three times a week from London Gatwick with a B777-200, the airfreight carrier said.
The service is scheduled to commence Nov. 24, 2016 and will operate throughout the winter schedule.
The service will supplement the Madrid-Johannesburg service that will commence Aug. 1, which will run three times a week with an A330-300; and IAG Cargo’s already existing London Heathrow-Cape Town and Johannesburg services.
By the end of the year, IAG Cargo will offer 27 flights per week into South Africa from its hubs in London and Madrid, providing its customers a weekly lift of up to 440 metric tons into South Africa.
This additional capacity will benefit Africa’s perishables market, IAG Cargo said. Within the past year, the airline has seen volumes of mangoes, avocados, pineapples and floriculture perform extremely well out of South Africa.
“Connecting through IAG Cargo’s Madrid hub, the forthcoming Johannesburg route will help to better link Africa with strategic markets, such as Latin America, while the new Cape Town-Gatwick route offers unrivalled access to Europe, North America and Asia Pacific,” IAG Head of Commercial David Shepherd said.
