UPS LOGISTICS BUYS SERVICE PARTS PROVIDERS
The UPS Logistics Group, in Atlanta, announced on Wednesday the purchase of two service parts logistics providers — Computer Logistics Solutions of Australia, based in Sydney, and Comlasa, based in Miami — that will extend the Group’s plans to build a global service parts network.
Terms were not disclosed.
CLS operates in 50 cities in 13 Asian countries, including Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Australia, the Philippines, India, Thailand, China and New Zealand.
Comlasa has customers in 37 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. It is also a leading service provider for the airline and travel agency industries in those regions.
'The past few months have only reinforced our enthusiasm when it comes to service parts logistics,” said Dan DiMaggio, chief executive officer of UPS Logistics. 'Not only does it represent an important, potentially high-growth business, but it also reflects the direction in which our customers are moving.”
In recent months, UPS has been awarded service contracts from Getronics, Compaq, Intermec, Network Appliances, Dell and IBM, ranging in length from three to seven years and totaling more than $1 billion, or roughly $200 million annually.
Service parts logistics includes the urgent delivery of critical parts in time-windows of one, two and four hours, the strategic stocking of critical parts, and 24-to-48 hour turnaround of warranty services, such as high-tech diagnostics and repair.
The new acquisitions follow an earlier purchase by UPS Logistics of Finon Sofecom in France and the proposed acquisition of the U.S. service parts network of logistics provider Burnham, based in Atlanta.
