NYK expects higher half-year profit

   Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha announced that it expects to report a group net profit of 21.2 billion yen ($193 million) for the six-month period ended Sept. 30, nearly three times the profit of Yen7.7 billion earned in the same period of last year.

   The Yen21.2 billion profit figure is also 41 percent higher than a profit forecast given on May 15.

   NYK also expects to report an operating profit of Yen44.4 billion ($400 million) for the April 1-Sept. 30 period, as compared to Yen41.2 billion in the corresponding period of last year. Group revenue is forecast at Yen680 billion ($6.2 billion) for the latest six-month period, up from Yen615 billion this time last year.

   NYK did not comment on the reasons for the expected sharp increase in its interim net profit.
