NFI buys Canadian 3PL

Cherry Hill, N.J.-based NFI has strengthened its footprint in Canada with the acquisition of Dominion Warehousing & Distribution.

NFI, a privately held integrated supply chain solutions provider, acquired Dominion Warehousing & Distribution at the end of 2016.
Dominion is a third-party logistics company based in Ontario, Canada.
The acquisition, financial terms of which were not disclosed, increased NFI’s Canadian service offering, which includes freight brokerage, global freight forwarding, asset-based transportation, and value added warehousing and distribution, NFI said.
In addition, the purchase boosted NFI’s total warehousing footprint to over 31 million square feet, with the company gaining 2 million square feet in Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver from the acquisition.
An NFI spokesperson told American Shipper NFI has U.S. customers that are looking to expand into Canada, and acquisitions like Dominion give NFI an established capability in some of the major markets. The Canadian market has always been a part of NFI’s strategy, and the company has made several acquisitions in Canada over the past few years, the spokesperson explained. In addition, just in October, NFI announced its opening of an office in Quebec.
Dominion President and General Manager Robert Dineen said, “Our 160 employees will feel at home as NFI continues to grow its warehousing and distribution services across North America.”
Cherry, Hill, N.J.-based NFI has facilities and operations throughout North America, employing more than 8,000 associates and operating with a company-owned fleet of over 2,000 tractors and 8,200 trailers.
