FEDEX LAUNCHES ON-LINE SHIPPING MARKET
Federal Express, the primary subsidiary of Memphis-based FDX Corp., has
launched a website that allows consumers to link to online retailers that ship goods via
FedEx.
FedEx MarketPlace, at http://www.fedex.com/us,
will provide links to such retailers as Value America, L.L. Bean and HP Shopping Village.
FedEx and United Parcel Service are competing fiercely for
Internet-generated shipping business. UPS appears to be winning, delivering a majority of
goods bought via the Internet, according to researchers.
Between Thanksgiving and the end of this year, Forrester Research
estimates that consumers will spend $4 billion online, nearly three times
last year’s total.
