Canada moves closer to settling lumber dispute with U.S.
A sufficient number of Canadian companies now support a bilateral measure to settle a 20-year lumber trade dispute with the United States, according to Michael Wilson, Canada’s ambassador to the United States, a the Washington Post reported today.
The deal allows Canadian lumber shippers to recover up to $4.3 billion in duties.
The Post said Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper plans to introduce legislation in September to implement the new lumber agreement with the United States by October.
