COSCO containership runs aground near Antwerp

The 14,074-TEU CSCL Jupiter ran aground on the Scheldt river bank in Bath, Zeeland, Netherlands at around 7:00 a.m. local time today while en route from Antwerp to Hamburg, blocking traffic in the area.

   The CSCL Jupiter was moving at around 13 knots when it ran aground after a steering failure, blocking traffic in the area.
   There was little hope the vessel would be refloated until high tide at around 8:50 p.m. local time today.
   According to ocean carrier schedule and capacity database BlueWater Reporting, the 14,074-TEU containership is operated by COSCO, which merged with fellow state-run line China Shipping (CSCL) last year, and serves the Asia-Europe trade on the OCEAN Alliance’s FAL7/AEU7.
   The loop deploys 11 vessels averaging 14,095 TEUs and has a rotation of Ningbo, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Nansha, Shekou, Tanjung Pelepas, Port Kelang, Piraeus, Antwerp, Hamburg, Rotterdam, Felixstowe, Southampton, Piraeus, Tanjung Pelepas, Singapore, Hong Kong and Ningbo.
   In addition to COSCO, other OCEAN Alliance members include CMA CGM, OOCL, APL and Evergreen Line.
